An 11-Year-Old Used Ford Ranger
Someone thinks an 11-year-old used Ford Ranger is worth almost $28K
If you need any more proof that the used truck market is insane, just over to Carvana. The site is selling a Used Ford Ranger Super Cab vehicle that is 11 years old for $27,990. True, it has just 16,092 miles. It is, indeed, an XLT with a six-foot bed. It checks all the boxes for a Ford Ranger of this vintage. However, a brand new XLT with zero mileage begins at $29,765. It may appear to be a lot, but comparable vehicles are selling for comparable prices.
But only if you can locate a new Ford Ranger. Chalmers Ford in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for example, offers only one new Ford Ranger for sale on its website. It’s a four-door crew cab with four-wheel drive from 2022. It’s $42,945. But because the truck’s status is “in transit,” no one knows when it will arrive. The same shop can sell you a used 2011 Ranger Sport with a five-speed manual transmission and only 32,000 kilometers for $19,619.
With 2011, a new Ford Ranger in XLT grade cost $19,120. The enhanced Sport package cost $22,425.
It’s becoming more difficult to find a new Ford Ranger.
The Lincoln Navigator was the first. The heavy-duty F-Series trucks followed. The firm has been plagued by ongoing supply challenges due to chip vendors’ inability to produce. In March, the business delayed dealer assignments, blaming the problems on suppliers.
Ford has long touted the F-150, but it’s sold out of 2022s. For many years, the truck has been the best-selling vehicle. It appears like we will have to wait until June to get a new F-150.
So why not buy the most recent generation?
Yes, there was a base model Ranger F-Series truck sold in the 1960s and 1970s. The nomenclature was changed, and the new small Ranger was introduced as a 1983 model in 1982. It was one of the most popular small trucks from 1983 until 2011. The Ranger was never known for his speed, joy, or even coolness. However, it was practical, could be bought with four-wheel drive, and was affordable to purchase new. The new Ford Rangers for 2022 are the same. The 2022 Ford Maverick, on the other hand, appears to be appealing to original Ranger customers.
The basic price of a Ranger in 1983 was only $6,200. It was available as a two-door truck or a two-door extended cab with a 2-liter Pinto four-cylinder engine.
In 1993, the truck received a comprehensive redesign that dramatically changed its look. Ford also produced many special variants of the Ranger, such as the Splash and the Tremor, that catered to a younger demographic.
Was 2011 a successful year for the Ranger?
If there was ever a year when a collector would desire a Ranger, it’s 2011. Ford produced the original Ranger until that year. It will be the most recent vintage Ranger available for purchase. The business did produce a few 2012 Rangers, but they were just for fleet sales.
The 2011 may be purchased with a Mazda-derived five-speed manual gearbox coupled to a 160-horsepower V6. They were available in the XL, XL Sport, XLT, and STX trim levels, as well as the Sport trim.
But at Carvana for $27,990? It’s a tall order for a vehicle that was “all new” when the first Bush took office.
